The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) on Thursday staged a protest outside the K-Electric head office, with senior leaders Dr Farooq Sattar, Ali Khursheedi, and others participating along with substantial number of supporters.

Addressing the demonstrators, Sattar criticised the prolonged power outages in Karachi, a city that contributes the most in taxes to the federal and provincial governments.

He said that power cuts ranging from 10 to 18 hours are intolerable and condemned KE's poor performance, accusing the company of profiting while failing to provide basic services to the citizens. He warned that if the load-shedding issue is not resolved, Karachi's residents are prepared for larger protests.

Dr. Sattar further mentioned that during negotiations with KE, concerns were raised about the extension of the Bin Qasim Power Stations I and II. He emphasis0ed that MQM has urged NEPRA not to grant the requested extension. He also highlighted that discussions took place regarding reducing tariffs and ensuring no load-shedding during nighttime.
