Tim Walz’s mom breaks silence in brotherly feud over Donald Trump
Darlene Walz, mother of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has decided to remain neutral in the ongoing public feud between her two sons—Tim, the vice-presidential nominee alongside Kamala Harris, and Jeff, a vocal Trump supporter.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Beast, the 89-year-old expressed her desire to “keep peace with all of them,” choosing not to involve herself in their political disputes.
The viral photo that circulated online featuring Trump supporters from the Walz family included “second cousins” from her late husband’s side, according to Darlene. She explained that despite her lifelong Democratic stance and support for her son’s political career, family divisions over politics are inevitable. “Most families in the bitterly divided United States have both Republicans and Democrats,” she said. “That’s OK, that’s OK.”
Jeff Walz, who resides in conservative Freeport, Florida, initially expressed strong opposition to his brother’s political views, calling Tim’s ideology “100% opposed” to his own. MAGA circles have even approached Jeff to publicly denounce his brother, but he later recanted, stating, “We’re not campaigning or anything, for him or against him.”
Darlene’s daughter, Sandy Dietrich, also stepped in, asking Jeff to soften his rhetoric. “Maybe somewhere down the line we’re hoping it will be resolved in a better situation,” Darlene said, expressing hope for a future reconciliation between her sons. Despite the tensions, Darlene insists on staying out of their political differences, focusing instead on family harmony.
