Body set up on NGO funds 'transparency'

ISLAMABAD:

The federal cabinet has formed a committee to review foreign funding received by both international and domestic Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). A notification in this regard was issued on September 3.

The six-member body includes Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi, Economic Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz, Interior Secretary Capt (retd) Khurram Muhammad Agha, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal, and Law and Justice Secretary Raja Naeem Akbar.

According to the notification, the committee will 'review the channels' through which NGOs receive foreign funding and suggest solid measures to ensure transparency and visible funding trails.
