Suspect in honey trap case denied bail

Court remands two others in police custody for seven days

LAHORE:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) dismissed the bail application of Amna Urooj, the main accused in the playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar honey trap case on Wednesday.

ATC Judge Arshad Javed heard the post-arrest bail application and announced the verdict after the completion of arguments.

The court directed the police to complete the challan against the suspect as soon as possible.

Advocate Zain Ali Qureshi represented the complainant Khalilur Rehman Qamar and Advocate Mudassar Chaudhry the suspect.

The police produced Urooj before the court on completion of her judicial remand.

The investigation officer submitted that the challan was being prepared and sought time for its completion.

Amna Urooj had approached the court for bail after being sent to jail on judicial remand in the case.

The alleged attempted kidnapping of the playwright had come to light in early July, leading to the arrest of nearly all the suspects by the police. The Sundar police had registered a case of robbery and abduction against several suspects on the basis of a complaint by Qamar.

An ATC also handed over the suspects Hassan Shah and Rafique alias Fiki to the police on seven-day physical remand in the case.

The police produced both suspects before ATC Judge Irfan Haider after an identification parade. The investigation officer submitted that both suspects had been identified in the process.
