Pakistani student Ayesha Mumtaz wins bronze at Asian Junior Boxing Championship in Abu Dhabi

Mumtaz's sharp jabs and exceptional skills secured her win as Pakistan's only participant in the tournament

Pakistani student Ayesha Mumtaz has secured a bronze medal at the Asian Junior and School Boxing Championship in Abu Dhabi after triumphing over Vietnamese competitor Thi Hong Yen Nguyen in the quarterfinals, as reported by Radio Pakistan on Wednesday.

The tournament, organised by the Asian Boxing Confederation, is being held in Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi, from August 27 to September 10, showcasing young boxing talent from across Asia.

The media highlighted Mumtaz's performance in the 46kg weight category, where she demonstrated “exceptional skills” as the only Pakistani participant. Her well-placed jabs played a crucial role in securing the win against her Vietnamese opponent.

Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), extended his congratulations to Mumtaz, praising her achievement as a reflection of the talent present in Pakistan's young athletes.

"The PBF is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent across the country and looks forward to more successes from Ayesha Mumtaz and other rising athletes," Mahmood said in media reports.

Mumtaz is the second female boxer from Pakistan to win a bronze at the Asian Boxing Championships, following Hadiya Kamal, who earned the same medal in the 2022 edition after receiving a direct entry into the semifinals.
