Pakistan, UK discuss strategic partnership, regional cooperation

Deputy PM to work with foreign secretary Lammy on climate action, youth development, enhancing trade and investment

LONDON:

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with David Lammy, the UK's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, on Wednesday to discuss a wide range of bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual interest.

According to a Foreign Office press release, Dar highlighted the importance of a strong Pakistan-UK partnership, aiming to advance their comprehensive bilateral agenda while promoting regional peace and stability. 

He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of British-Pakistanis in strengthening ties between the two nations.

The foreign minister expressed his enthusiasm for working with Foreign Secretary Lammy on shared priorities such as climate action, youth development, and boosting trade and investment. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to upgrading their close and historic relationship into a strategic partnership.

In response, Foreign Secretary Lammy congratulated Dar on Pakistan’s recent election to the UN Security Council and reaffirmed the UK's support during Pakistan’s term. 

Both leaders agreed to maintain close collaboration as they prepare for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October 2024.
