Uganda's opposition leader Bobi Wine 'shot in leg' by police
Uganda's main opposition leader, Bobi Wine, was shot in the leg during a confrontation with security forces in a northern suburb of Kampala on Tuesday, according to his party, the National Unity Platform.
Videos posted online showed Wine, whose real name is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, surrounded by supporters who called for assistance after he was injured.
The footage captured the moment Wine was helped into a waiting vehicle.
The incident occurred in Bulindo, Wakiso District.
The National Unity Platform condemned the attack, accusing Ugandan security operatives of attempting to take Wine's life. It remains unclear whether the injury was caused by a live bullet or a tear gas projectile.
Wine, a prominent musician and politician, ran for president in 2021, losing to President Yoweri Museveni in a contested election. His party holds the most seats of any opposition group in Uganda's national assembly.
The shooting has raised concerns about political violence in Uganda, where Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, recently removed age limits from the constitution to extend his presidency.
