PESHAWAR:

A youth influenced by TikTok killed his teacher over 500 rupees. Sheikh Adnan, a shopkeeper in Qissa Khwani, had employed Mukhtar as an apprentice ten years ago.

Mukhtar started working at the shop for a meager, but recently took a liking towards violence after being influenced by TikTok and Pashto films. As a result, he was involved in frequent brawls in his area. This led Sheikh Adnan dismissing Mukhtar from the shop six months ago, which deeply upset him.

According to the police, Mukhtar had been visiting the shop frequently for the past few days and insisting on being reinstated, but the shopkeeper had already hired someone else in his place. Enraged, Mukhtar pulled out a pistol and fired at his teacher, Sheikh Adnan, who succumbed to his injuries after battling for life for 24 hours in the hospital.

The police have since arrested Mukhtar and begun an investigation, while an FIR has been registered at Kabuli Police Station.

The trend of making videos with weapons and displaying shooting styles on social media app TikTok has inspired many young people to take up arms.
