
The suspected ringleader of a criminal gang, along with three of his associates, has been arrested in a joint intelligence-based operation by the Rangers and police.
The suspected gangster has been identified as Minhaj Ali Khan, aka Menu, while his associates are Muzamil Hashmi, alias Baban, Muhammad Talha, and Muhammad Ahsan, alias Jadoo. Minhaj is said to have confessed to his involvement in over 60 incidents of street crime in different neighbourhoods of the metropolis.
The gang's crimes include a shooting incident in Powerhouse Chowrangi, near Al-Khidmat Hospital, New Karachi, in which a man was injured while resisting a robbery. On July 24, Minhaj and Talha committed a robbery at gunpoint in North Karachi's Sector SA 2, where they snatched a mobile phone from a citizen. CCTV footage of this incident went viral on social media. On May 28, Hashmi and Talha robbed Rs225,000 from Ishaq Woodworks Shop, in Godhra Colony, New Karachi. The footage of this robbery was also widely shared online.
The gang operated by renting weapons from another criminal named Zubair at a daily rate of Rs5,000.
