A school bus ran over children and parents standing at the school gate in China.

A bus collided with a group of students and parents outside a middle school in Tai’an city, Shandong province, eastern China, on Tuesday morning.

The crash, which occurred after 7 a.m., resulted in 11 fatalities and 13 injuries, according to police and state media reports. The students were waiting to enter the school gate when the accident happened, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

The crash resulted in the deaths of five students and six parents.

Among the 13 injured, one is in critical condition, while the others are stable.

The bus driver is in police custody, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

China has experienced a series of violent attacks and severe accidents involving school children in recent years.

In March, a car in Dezhou, Shandong, hit a group of pupils, killing two and severely injuring six.

Later that month, a student bus collided with a dump truck in Nantong, Jiangsu, resulting in one death and eight injuries.

Last year, six people were killed in a stabbing outside a kindergarten in Guangdong, and a 2022 stabbing at a kindergarten in Jiangxi left three dead and six injured.
