At least six killed, 13 injured in a suicide bombing in Kabul: Afghan police

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A suicide bombing in Kabul's southern district of Qala-e-Bakhtiar has left at least six people dead and 13 others injured, Afghan authorities confirmed on Monday.

The explosion occurred in the afternoon when a person wearing explosives detonated the device, causing significant casualties among civilians.

The incident was reported by Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran, who provided details on the attack via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"Unfortunately, six civilians, including a woman, were killed and 13 others were injured," Zadran stated, adding that an investigation into the attack is currently underway.

The Ministry of Interior Affairs has also launched a probe to determine the circumstances and perpetrators behind the bombing.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Qala-e-Bakhtiar area, where the explosion took place, is located in the southern part of Kabul, a region that has witnessed occasional violence despite the overall decrease in attacks since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021.

The Taliban’s takeover marked the end of a two-decade conflict involving international forces, leading to a significant reduction in large-scale violence across the country.

However, isolated incidents like this suicide bombing continue to pose security challenges, particularly in urban areas like Kabul.

Afghanistan has seen various militant groups, including the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), operate within its borders, often targeting civilian and military sites in attempts to destabilise the region.
