Danielle Moore, lead singer of Crazy P, dies at 52

Danielle Moore, the lead singer of the electronic group Crazy P, has died at the age of 52. The band announced her death on Instagram, revealing she passed away on August 30 in “sudden and tragic circumstances.”

In a heartfelt tribute, Moore’s bandmates said, “We cannot believe the news ourselves and we know it will be the same for all of you. She gave us so much and we love her so much. Our hearts are broken. We need time to process that this has happened. Danielle lived a life driven by love, compassion, community and music. She lived the biggest of lives. We will miss her with all our hearts.”

The cause of Moore’s death has not been disclosed. Tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, including JD Twitch of Optimo, who described her as “the definition of a beautiful human being” on X.

Moore joined Crazy P in 2002, following the group's initial formation in the mid-1990s by Chris Todd and Jim Baron. The band, originally known as Crazy Penis, released seven studio albums and several remix albums. Moore was noted for her expressive performance style, and her role in the band was integral to their success.

Born near Manchester, Moore’s early experiences at the Haçienda nightclub influenced her music career. In an interview with Disco Pogo, she described performing as a means of empowerment, stating, “When I’m performing, I feel like I’ve stepped into my alter ego and am able to take on any mood. It’s very empowering to become detached from my own slightly vulnerable self.”

Moore also gained recognition as a solo DJ and was known for her politically charged lyrics in the band's last album, 2019’s Age of the Ego. She used the album to critique high-profile figures and advocate for community investment.
