Elon Musk refers to X by its former name, Twitter

Internet reacts to Musk's slip-up, "Epic waste of $44B and rebranding. We all still love calling it 'Twitter.'"

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), recently found himself at the center of a social media storm after mistakenly referring to the platform by its old name in a meme. 

The error occurred as Musk posted a meme on X, implying that users in Brazil were resorting to VPNs to access the site following its ban in the country. 

Despite Musk’s efforts to enforce the platform’s rebranding, users were quick to pounce on his slip-up, sparking widespread ridicule online.

Fans and users alike didn’t hold back in their reactions. One user sarcastically remarked, "So you agree, it's still Twitter?" highlighting the irony of Musk’s mistake. 

Another pointed out, "Even Musk calls it Twitter. Just give up; X is such a lame name," reflecting the resistance to the rebranding effort. 

Others found the situation absurd, with one user commenting, "Buying a company, changing the name, and then posting memes with the old name might be one of the wildest things I've ever seen." 

Another echoed this sentiment, stating, "You renamed the platform and still call it Twitter. Epic waste of $44B and rebranding. We all still love calling it ‘Twitter.’"

This social media blunder comes at a challenging time for Musk, as X faces a legal battle in Brazil where the platform was temporarily banned following a ruling by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. 

Musk has publicly criticized Moraes, labeling him a "dictator" and accusing him of enforcing unjustified censorship.

The situation escalated further as a five-member panel of Brazil's Supreme Court prepared to vote on whether to uphold the ban.

Musk’s slip-up has added fuel to the fire, serving as a stark reminder of the difficulties in rebranding a platform as iconic as Twitter. 

Despite the official name change, the brand’s identity appears to be deeply ingrained in the public consciousness, with even Musk himself inadvertently reverting to the old name.
