KU academic council elections held

Registrar of the University of Karachi and Returning Officer Dr Abdul Waheed announced the names of individuals elected to the Academic Council.

They include Dr Mohsin Ali, Dr Saadia Mahmood, Syed Ghufran Alam, Dr Syed Faizan-ul-Hassan, Dr Nida Ali, and Dr Maroof Bin Rauf.

The elections were held on Wednesday at the Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium, University of Karachi, from 9:30am to 1pm. For the Associate Professor positions, Dr Mohsin Ali secured 50 votes, while Dr Saadia Mahmood received 38 votes, making them successful. Dr Noman Saeed obtained 35 votes, and Dr Rana Mazhar Abbas received 23 votes. In the Assistant Professor/Lecturer category, Ghufran Alam received 172 votes, followed by Faizanul Hassan with 153 votes, Dr Nida Ali with 152 votes, and Dr Maroof Bin Rauf with 134 votes, thus being elected.

Other candidates included Asad Tanoli with 133 votes, Farukh Rafiq Ahmed with 116 votes, Shumaila Samad with 68 votes, and Sarwat Afshan with 66 votes.

The successful candidates will serve three-year tenure, commencing from the first meeting of the Academic Council.
