Naomi Osaka made a fashion statement at the US Open with a "very cutesy" green Nike outfit that quickly caught the attention of fans and spectators alike. The Japanese tennis star debuted the ensemble, featuring a ruffled green skirt and a white bow at the back, as she took to the court for the tournament.

The outfit, designed by Nike collaborator Yoon Ahn, who is also behind the brand AMBUSH, was initially speculated to be inspired by anime. However, Ahn clarified the vision behind the design in an interview with Essentially Sports, stating, "For Naomi's look, she brought forward a vision, and it was my job as a designer to create something that she'll feel confident and comfortable in when she walks onto the court, allowing her to bring 100% of herself."

Osaka, who has always been known for her distinctive style on and off the court, expressed her excitement about the outfit to The New York Times, saying, "I think that when I put on my U.S. Open outfit, I'm going to feel a transformation."

The design is part of a larger theme influenced by the Japanese fashion movement Goth Lolita, which often involves modest, elaborate outfits. Ahn explained that the collection was meant to emphasize a "girls' world," allowing women to express their character and enhance their personal style.

Osaka’s outfit has added a fashionable flair to the US Open, drawing comparisons to iconic tennis outfits of the past, while also setting a new standard for on-court fashion.
