Kit Connor, the 20-year-old actor known for portraying Nick Nelson in Netflix's hit series Heartstopper, has shared his thoughts on filming intimate scenes with his co-star and onscreen boyfriend, Joe Locke.

As the show approaches its third season, premiering in October, Kit revealed that the evolving relationship between Nick and Charlie Spring (Locke) has become more intimate, leading to the inclusion of intimate scenes in the new episodes.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Kit explained that filming these scenes required considerable effort, noting that he and Joe have gradually built up to this level of intimacy over the years.

“Season one, [the intimacy coordinator] would be there making sure that we were comfortable holding hands. And now we’re doing the sex scenes,” Kit shared.

Reflecting on the process, Kit mentioned, “We shot a lot of footage for them. Not much actually ended up in the show. But we shot the sex scenes for about seven hours!”

Despite the challenges, Kit emphasized that his offscreen friendship with Joe made the experience more comfortable, allowing them to navigate the demanding scenes together.

When asked if he feels he's outgrown the role of a high school student, Kit responded, “I wouldn’t say that we’ve outgrown the show because the show is growing in itself.”

Kit, who publicly came out as bisexual in October 2022 amid accusations of queerbaiting, also touched on how he views the experience nearly two years later. “I really don’t think about it all that often, I’ve got to say, which I’m happy about,” he said.

“I spoke about it endlessly. I think I said everything that there was to possibly ever say about that topic. I’ve moved on and I feel much better for it.”

Heartstopper Season 3 will be available on Netflix starting October 3.
