Rapper Fatman Scoop dies at 52 after collapsing during concert

Isaac Freeman III, better known as Fatman Scoop, has passed away at the age of 52. 

The New York-born rapper, famous for his iconic 1999 hit ‘Be Faithful,’ suffered a medical emergency during a performance in Hamden, Connecticut, on August 30, 2024. 

The incident occurred at Hamden Town Center Park around 8:33 p.m., where the artist suddenly collapsed on stage, causing panic among the audience.

His death was confirmed on social media by DJ Pure Cold, prompting an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from fans and colleagues. 

Video footage shared on social media shows Fatman Scoop, shirtless and hyping up the crowd, collapsing behind the DJ booth as the music abruptly stopped. Bystanders and fellow performers quickly rushed to his aid, with some seen performing chest compressions as others led the crowd in prayer. Despite their efforts, Freeman could not be revived.

The rapper, who was headlining the “Green & Gold Party” at the time, had previously rescheduled the performance due to inclement weather. 

Fatman Scoop's influence on hip-hop, particularly his contributions to tracks like Missy Elliott’s ‘Lose Control,’ will be remembered as a lasting legacy.
