Angelina Jolie is singing the praises of this opera icon.

The “Maleficent” actress, 49, made a striking appearance at the 2024 Venice Film Festival in a sleek black dress, in advance of the premiere of her new film, “Maria,” on Thursday. She paid tribute to the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, whom she portrays in the biopic, by wearing one of Callas’s Cartier brooches.

Jolie shared with Vogue that while she doesn’t typically embrace method dressing, she wanted to honor Callas through her festival wardrobe. She wore an Atelier Jolie gown adorned with a gold Cartier Panthère brooch “sitting atop a carved white chalcedony gemstone.”

“I chose not to copy [Maria’s] looks because they are hers, and her Venice carpets were stunning, so I gave a little nod to her—in a different way,” she told Vogue, adding, “You can imagine how special it was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers.”

Jolie also dons the 1971 Cartier brooch in the film, along with several other vintage pieces that belonged to the soprano.

Even though her approach differed from that of Margot Robbie or Zendaya at Venice, the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” star made sure to wear something elegant to “honor” Callas.

For the premiere on Thursday night, she wowed in a champagne-colored gown with a matching fur stole, and she pinned one of the Cartier brooches she mentioned in her Vogue interview to the wrap.
