Mashwani's brothers not with agencies, AG tells IHC

Court adjourns hearing till next week, directing AG to submit progress report

ISLAMABAD:

The Attorney General of Pakistan on Friday informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that the two missing brothers of PTI social media activist Azhar Mashwani were not with any agency.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition of the father of Azhar Mashwani's two missing brothers. AG Mansoor Usman Awan informed the court that the matter had been placed before the higher authorities, but both the missing brothers were not with any agency.

"All agencies are working on it and all resources are being utilized for the purpose. I am personally looking into the matter," Usman further informed the court. He further said he would evaluate further if PTI's Babar Awan gave him more information, adding information about the vehicles seen in the given videos was being gleaned. He, however, told the court that one vehicle seen in the video belonged to the Punjab police and efforts were in place to trace others.

CJ Farooq remarked that the AG had given a clear statement that the missing brothers were not with the agencies. "The AG is the highest law officer, so his statement is important."

The court then adjourned the hearing till next week, directing the AG for a progress report on the case during the next hearing.

During the hearing, Babar Awan, the petitioner's counsel, mentioned the bandits of the Katcha areas. To which, CJ Farooq remarked that the situation in South Punjab and other areas was extremely bad. "We have been watching and listening about the robbers of the katcha areas since childhood."

The court gave more time to the Attorney General to recover the missing brothers.
