PMD predicts early arrival of fog

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan could expect near normal rainfall in most parts of the country in September but a less rainfall in the post-monsoon season might cause an early onset of fog and smog in some areas, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Friday.

PMD Director General Mahr Sahibzad Khan told a press conference that north-eastern Punjab and south-eastern Sindh might get slightly above-normal rainfall during September while daytime maximum temperatures were expected to remain normal to below normal over most parts of the country.

"The overall a tendency for near normal rainfall is expected in most parts of the country in the month of September," Khan said. However, he hinted at the chances of less rainfall during the post monsoon period that might cause early onset of fog and smog in some regions of the country.

From September 2 to 4, Khan said, rain with isolated heavy fall was expected in upper parts of the country, which might generate flash flooding in local nullahs and streams and hill torrents besides triggering landslides.
