In the wake of the devastating news of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's passing, NHL player Kevin Hayes took to social media to express his grief and condolences. He shared a poignant photo of Johnny with his nephew Beau, writing, "Love you John! Say hello to Beau's dad for me," referencing his late brother Jimmy Hayes who tragically passed away in 2021.

The Gaudreau brothers were killed in a car accident involving an alleged drunk driver on Thursday, August 29. They were in town for their sister's wedding where they were set to be groomsmen.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, Johnny's team, expressed their shock and sadness, remembering him as a great hockey player and a devoted family man.

Later on Friday, Johnny and Matthew’s uncle Jim released a statement on behalf of the Gaudreau family.

“Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two sons and brothers in law, two nephews, two cousins, two family members, two teammates, two friends but truly two amazing human beings,” the statement read. “We want to let everyone know we are receiving your messages of love and support and we appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers.”
