Senate panel passes journos protection bill

A Senate panel on Wednesday unanimously passed the private member's bill "The Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (Amendment) Bill, 2022 with several amendments after examining all clauses starting from 20-D of the bill.

The bill was discussed by the Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting. The bill had been introduced by Senator Saleem Mandviwala.

The minutes of the committee meeting held on July 10, 2024 were approved. The committee also reviewed private member's bill for "The Right of Access to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2023".
