Raye and Benson Boone join star-studded lineup for Global Citizen Festival 2024
British music star Raye and Benson Boone, known for his hit "Beautiful Things," have been added to the lineup for the 2024 Global Citizen Festival.
They join previously announced headliners Post Malone, Doja Cat, Lisa, Jelly Roll, and Rauw Alejandro for the event scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 28, in New York's Central Park.
The festival will be hosted by Global Citizen Ambassador Hugh Jackman and will feature special appearances by Dr. Jane Goodall and Chris Martin of Coldplay.
Global Citizen, the international advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty, is organizing the event. Tickets are free and can be earned by taking action on the Global Citizen app or at globalcitizenfestival.com, with a mission to defeat poverty, defend the planet, and demand equity.
Benson Boone expressed his commitment to the cause, stating, “Ending extreme poverty is a responsibility we all share... I hope we can all come together to take action and make a real difference in the world.”
For the first time, the festival will switch to battery power, using the SmartGrid battery system that powered Coldplay's "Music of the Spheres" world tour. This will power all audio, lighting, video, and stage production, reducing carbon emissions and minimizing environmental impact.
As part of its campaign, Global Citizen will kick off Climate Week with a beach clean-up on September 21 in partnership with the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, supported by Goodera, aligning with International Coastal Clean-up Day.
Global Citizen and its partners are calling for $1 billion in investments to protect and restore the Amazon by 2025, supporting Indigenous and riverfront communities. In New York, they are advocating for Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the TREES Act, aiming to prevent public funds from contributing to tropical deforestation.
Michael Sheldrick, Co-Founder & Chief Policy, Impact and Government Affairs Officer at Global Citizen, emphasized the festival's commitment to sustainable change, stating, “Global Citizen Festival has always been about using the power of music and activism to drive real, tangible change... We’re calling on world leaders, businesses, and citizens alike to join us in mobilizing action towards a just transition to clean energy and a safer planet for all.”
