Brittany Cartwright files for divorce from Jax Taylor, seeks custody of their son
Brittany Cartwright has officially filed for divorce from Jax Taylor.
Court documents filed Tuesday in Los Angeles and obtained by Page Six reveal that the "The Valley" star, 35, has requested the dissolution of marriage, noting they have a minor child, as the ex-couple shares a 3-year-old son, Cruz, as reported by Page Six.
She cited irreconcilable differences as the cause for the split, with the date of separation listed as Jan. 24, 2024, a day before her birthday, according to the paperwork.
Cartwright has asked the judge to waive spousal support for both her and Taylor, whose legal name is Jason Cauchi. She is also seeking legal and physical custody of their child, allowing Taylor visitation rights.
Regarding her assets, Cartwright wants to retain ownership of all properties acquired by gift, inheritance, before marriage, or after the date of separation.
The documents also state that the specific details of assets and debts in this case "have not been ascertained at this time." Their quasi-community assets will also be determined at a later date.
Cartwright and Taylor, 45, share multiple joint businesses. Besides both starring in "The Valley," they also co-own a bar called Jax's Studio City and host a podcast titled "When Reality Hits."
Cartwright first announced their separation in February after nearly five years of marriage.
“Yes, marriages in general are very hard and I’ve had a particularly rough year this past year,” she said via their podcast at the time.
“Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.”
At the time, fans speculated whether the relationship drama was intended to boost ratings for "The Valley" – which was about to premiere – but the former couple's representative quickly denied that claim.
