Capital cops penalised for aiding bandits

In a shocking development, officers and personnel of the Islamabad police have been found to have facilitated criminals involved in armed robberies. The Islamabad Inspector General of Police has dismissed one SHO and two constables from their positions, while an ASI has been demoted.

According to details, a report sent to federal police officials by the Wah Cantonment Police in Rawalpindi revealed that a gang involved in armed robberies was being facilitated by the Islamabad police. The report indicated that the gang members, arrested on the night of June 18-19, 2024, in the Number 26 Chungi area, were released after being bribed by SHO Sub-Inspector Syed Asim Ghaffar and his team from the Noon Police Station.

An inquiry was conducted by Islamabad IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and DIG Syed Ali Raza. The investigation, led by the Industrial Zone SP, confirmed the involvement of Islamabad police officers in aiding the robbery gang. Based on the inquiry report, action has been taken against one sub-inspector, one ASI, one head constable, and two constables.

The official notification states that SHO Sub-Inspector Asim Ghaffar has been dismissed from service, Sub-Inspector Zafar Iqbal has been demoted to ASI, and Head Constable Mohammad Sajid, along with Constables Muhammad Haroon and Muhammad Naveed, have been terminated from their positions.
