Court dismisses report on missing ex-jailer

The Lahore High Court's (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench, presided over by Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf, has dismissed the police's response as unsatisfactory in a recovery petition concerning the abduction of the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail from Jail Colony. The court put the City Police Officer (CPO) to notice and summoned him on August 29.

Justice Rauf expressed serious concern over the incident, stating that the jail is a sensitive location and that it is the responsibility of the police to locate the missing officer. He emphasised that if everyone performs their duties, such incidents should not occur, and highlighted the gravity of the situation by questioning the safety of both the staff and inmates within Adiala Jail.

The Ministry of Defence has also submitted its report to the High Court regarding the disappearance of Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram. Justice Rauf questioned which agencies were involved in the case and to whom the court should issue directives.

The Assistant Advocate General submitted a response on behalf of CPO Rawalpindi, stating that letters have been sent to various agencies and police departments across four provinces seeking information on the missing officer.

However, the court found the response inadequate and ordered the CPO to appear in court for the next hearing.
