Energy Minister claims power rates do not always increase
Federal Energy Minister Owais Laghari has stated that the perception that electricity rates are always increasing is incorrect.
He noted that from September to November, consumers will have to pay 2 rupees and 37 paise less per unit for fuel adjustment charges.
According to Radio Pakistan, he clarified that the idea of constant increases in electricity rates requires explanation.
NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) determines electricity rates every three months, including for QTA (Quarterly Tariff Adjustment) and fuel adjustment charges.
Petitions are filed for price increases, and these decisions are officially announced in the media. However, due to a lack of understanding, this is often portrayed as continuous and unchecked increases.
He added that NEPRA had a hearing on August 26, during which it was determined that for the period from September to November, there will be an increase of 96 paise per unit under QTA, but there will also be a reduction of 2 rupees and 87 paise per unit for fuel adjustment.
Overall, consumers will pay 2 rupees and 37 paise less per unit.
He emphasised the need for this clarification to counter the prevailing belief that electricity charges are always rising.
