PESHAWAR:

The chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was observed with devotion and respect, as mourning processions, held under tight security in Peshawar, concluded peacefully.

These processions followed traditional routes and concluded in the evening. The routes were monitored through surveillance cameras and initiated from Imambargah Akhundabad and Jamia Masjid in Kuchah Risaldar before passing through Kohati Chowk, Kuchah Risaldar, Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Masgaraan Bazaar, Peepal Mandi, and Kochi Bazaar before culminating in the evening.

Strict security arrangements were made along the procession routes. Capital City Police Officer Qasim Ali Khan visited the city and also took stock of the situation from the command-and-control room in Peshawar.

During his visit, he thoroughly reviewed the security arrangements for the mourning procession of the chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA). The Bomb Disposal Unit was ordered to continuously sweep procession routes and key locations with the help of sniffer dogs.

Meanwhile, strict security arrangements were also made in Tank district with mobile network services being suspended. Reports suggested that the district police were on high alert with people attending majalis and imambargahs being frisked thoroughly.

In the Kurram district, mourning processions concluded after departing from the central imambargah in Parachinar City and others along their designated routes. On this occasion, the Kurram police and Pakistan Army implemented foolproof security arrangements to protect the rallies.

Mobile phone services were also suspended throughout the district to maintain peace and security and to prevent any untoward incidents. DPO Kurram Ahmad Shah, along with the DC and army officers, periodically visited the routes of the central procession in Parachinar City and Mir Kalam Ziarat to assess the overall security situation.

Protective measures were thoroughly inspected from all angles. DPO Kurram, while patrolling on foot, met police personnel stationed along the procession routes. He urged them to remain vigilant while on duty, and to conduct thorough checks on all incoming and outgoing individuals.
