'Population growth a massive problem'

Advisor says solid steps needed as lip service addresses nothing

Special Assistant to KP CM on Population Welfare, Malik Liaquat Ali Khan, said on Monday that the rapid growth of population was one of the major national problems and a matter of concern.

Addressing a seminar on family planning organised by social activists in collaboration with UNFPA, he stressed the need to take solid steps to prevent population growth and resolve serious problems.

K-P Assembly Member Askar Pervez, former MPA Meher Sultana, Secretary Population Welfare Ammad Ali Lohani, Regional Director Population Welfare Gohar Zaman and others also addressed the seminar. During the gathering, civil society organisations gave a detailed briefing on the growing population and its control in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

They informed the special assistant on Family Planning Vision 2030 and its targets. Various suggestions to control of population growth were presented. These included preventive plans, seeking clerics' support and cooperation in the acceleration of public awareness campaigns.
