Quentin Tarantino has made it clear that he has no interest in watching Toy Story 4, despite his admiration for the original trilogy. The acclaimed director shared his thoughts during an appearance on the podcast Club Random with Bill Maher, where he discussed the challenges of concluding a trilogy in a satisfying way. Tarantino, known for his films such as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, expressed his belief that the original Toy Story trilogy ended perfectly and that there was no need for a fourth installment.

“I don’t watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the Toy Story trilogy,” Tarantino said in a clip from the podcast that has since gone viral. He praised the third film, calling it “one of the best movies I’ve ever seen,” and emphasized that the trilogy’s conclusion was so well-executed that he felt no need to continue with the series. “You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done,” Tarantino added.

Tarantino also compared the Toy Story trilogy to other film series, particularly the Clint Eastwood-starring Dollars Trilogy, which he views as the only trilogy to fully succeed in surpassing its predecessors. He highlighted the unique vision of director Sergio Leone, stating that each film in the trilogy built upon the previous one in a way that few trilogies have been able to achieve.

Despite Tarantino’s lack of interest, Toy Story 5 is currently in development, with Disney CEO Bob Iger confirming at the D23 Expo that Andrew Stanton, the original film’s director, will return to helm the project. The new film is set to explore themes related to children’s obsession with technology and is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026.
