Business executive and billionaire Pavel Durov was arrested upon landing in France on his private jet, accompanied by 24-year-old "crypto coach" and streamer Juli Vavilova and a bodyguard.

French authorities issued the warrant following allegations that Telegram, the messaging app Durov founded, has been facilitating various criminal activities, including drug trafficking, child content, and fraud, due to inadequate moderation and non-cooperation with law enforcement.

Telegram has long been under scrutiny for its role in enabling restricted content, with authorities linking its usage to pro-democracy protests in Belarus, Russia, Hong Kong, and Iran.

The arrest of Durov marks a significant moment in the ongoing investigation into the app’s operations.

As news of his capture spread, attention quickly turned to Vavilova, who had been documenting her travels with Durov on Instagram, sparking speculation about their relationship.

While some social media users questioned her involvement in Durov’s arrest, authorities maintain that they had been tracking his activities for months, culminating in the Paris detention.

If convicted, Durov could face up to 20 years in prison. In response to the arrest, Telegram issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to free speech and decentralization, standing firmly by Durov during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, supporters in Moscow held a rally, bringing paper planes to the French embassy in a show of solidarity.
