Jenna Ortega reveals that finding explicit AI images of herself on Twitter was "terrifying"

The ‘Beetlejuice’ actor explained earlier that she left Twitter after discovering explicit AI images of herself.

Jenna Ortega recently shared her reasons for quitting Twitter in a candid interview with The New York Times. 

The actress revealed that she decided to leave the platform after encountering explicit images of herself generated by artificial intelligence when she was still a teenager. These images, along with an influx of inappropriate messages from fans, ultimately drove her to delete her account.

Ortega expressed her deep aversion to AI, stating, “I hate AI,” but also acknowledged its potential for positive uses, such as early detection of diseases. However, she emphasized that the misuse of AI in creating explicit content of minors is unacceptable. 

“Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No. It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong,” she said.

Reflecting on her early experiences with social media, Ortega recalled receiving an unsolicited explicit image from a follower when she was just 12 years old. This incident marked the beginning of a series of disturbing online interactions that left her feeling uncomfortable and distressed. 

The pressures to maintain a social media presence eventually became too much, leading her to delete her account two to three years ago after the release of a popular show exacerbated the issue.

Ortega, who began her acting career at the age of 9, admitted that while there are moments she regrets her early start, she remains grateful for the lessons it taught her. 

Her experience in the industry has given her a deep understanding of the filmmaking process, allowing her to feel confident and secure on set.
