Militant attack kills 10 people, including police and Levies personnel, in Balochistan's Kalat

At least 10 people, including police and Balochistan Levies personnel, were killed in a gun attack in Kalat, police said on Monday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dostin Dashti confirmed that those killed included a police sub-inspector, four Levies personnel, and five civilians.

The attackers fled the area, and police have launched a clearance operation.

The police reported that the exchange of fire between police and armed assailants began on Sunday night along Kalat's national highway and continued into the city.

Kalat Assistant Commissioner Aftab Ahmed and a Levies officer were injured in the attack.

Levies officials stated that the injured officer was taken to hospital, while Kalat Commissioner Naeem Bazai reported that Ahmed's condition is stable.

Security sources said that terrorists carried out multiple attacks across Balochistan on the night of August 24-25.

In response, security forces and law enforcement agencies killed 12 militants and injured several others. The operation will continue until all attackers are neutralised, the sources added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the terrorist attack in Kalat that claimed the lives of police and Levies personnel, reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism.

In a statement from the PM Office, the prime minister expressed his sorrow over the martyrdom of the security personnel and prayed for their souls, as well as for the swift recovery of the injured.

He also extended prayers for the bereaved families, wishing them strength in their time of loss. The prime minister directed the authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care.

Shehbaz Sharif called for an immediate investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasised that the nation would never forget the sacrifices of its police and security forces, and asserted that such cowardly attacks would not weaken the nation’s resolve.

The prime minister reiterated that the entire nation stands with the security forces in the fight against terrorism, and vowed that the terrorists’ attempts to disrupt the country’s peace would ultimately fail.
