‘Ted Lasso’ moves closer to Season 4 with options picked up for three core cast members
In a significant development for fans of the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, Warner Bros. Television has taken a major step towards a potential fourth season by picking up options on three original cast members. According to sources cited by Deadline, the actors secured under the UK acting union Equity are Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).
With these key cast members on board, the studio is expected to begin negotiations with other cast members whose contracts with SAG-AFTRA have expired. This includes co-creators and executive producers Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), along with Juno Temple (Keeley Jones). However, Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) has reportedly not had his option picked up, possibly due to his commitments with other series such as Prime Video's The Devil’s Hour and Apple TV+'s Surface.
While there is no official confirmation from Warner Bros. Television or Apple TV+, sources indicate that early preparations are being made to open a writers' room, with production on a potential fourth season eyeing an early 2025 start, contingent on budget approval and scheduling. The decision to continue Ted Lasso ultimately rests with Sudeikis, who originally conceived the show as a three-season story arc. Despite the show's massive success, including 13 Emmy Awards and two back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series wins, Sudeikis has remained non-committal about extending the series. However, recent developments suggest that the right idea may have emerged for a continuation.
The third season finale, which aired in May 2023, left room for potential storylines, including a partnership between Keeley and Rebecca to launch an AFC Richmond Women’s Team.
