Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the policemen injured an attack by criminals in the riverine area and met the families of the martyrs.
The chief minister visited the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan and prayed for the recovery of the injured personnel, including Waseem Arshad, Bilal, Farooq, Nabil Shahzad, Zahid, Saeed and Muhammad Ayub. She also met the families of the injured personnel.
Injured official Bilal expressed his determination, saying, "Our morale is high; we will fight again after recovering; we will continue to fight against the enemies of peace."
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised Bilal and said, "Police personnel are like our brothers and sons; I consider their suffering as my own concern; we will not spare those who attacked them." Later, the chief minister met the families of the martyrs at the DPO office.
The police martyrs included Muhammad Imran, Rashid, Sajid, Ahmad, Zahid, Munir, Nazar Abbas, Ansar and Abdullah.
Three youths from the Hindu community, Ajay Ram, Beram Ram and Raja Kanwal, also sacrificed their lives for the cause.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz consoled the families of the police martyrs. She showed affection to the young children of the martyred personnel and said, "We made a mistake, we will rectify it, and such an incident will not happen again."
She said that every martyr is a hero of the nation and the bereaved families will be provided full support.
The children of the martyrs will be provided free education, housing and jobs.
The chief minister said, "Every life is precious and we will also ensure the security of police personnel. A permanent solution to the Kutcha areas must be found and the construction of check posts would be completed soon."
She was given a detailed briefing at the DPO office about the incident.
Strict security arrangements were made for the chief minister's visit.
