Kari Lake criticizes Tim Walz’s 'stolen valor' after campaigning with faux vietnam vet Steve Slaton

Kari Lake is among the Republicans reacting strongly after this week’s Democratic National Convention.

Charlie Kirk from Turning Point USA criticized Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech as lacking “vibe” and “energy.” Donald Trump hinted at a shift on abortion policies, declaring, “My administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights,” which had Cathi Herrod from the Center for Arizona Policy reacting faintly. Meanwhile, Lake expressed outrage over “stolen valor,” referring to Harris’ nomination and Tim Walz’s military service.

Walz, who served 24 years with the Army National Guard and held the title of command sergeant major, retired at a lower rank due to incomplete coursework. The Guard has confirmed his claim to the rank. Walz also mentioned carrying weapons in war, which he later clarified was a reference to his support role during Operation Enduring Freedom, as noted by his campaign.

In contrast, Lake has associated with a Republican candidate, Steve Slaton, who falsely claimed to be a Vietnam combat pilot despite official records showing he was a helicopter repairman. Slaton also presented a fraudulent discharge document and medals that were awarded after his enlistment. Lake campaigned alongside Slaton, who prominently displayed a Confederate flag in his Trump-themed store, calling it a “magical day.”

It’s unusual to see a Senate candidate align with someone posing as a combat veteran, especially when running against a genuine one.
