'Govt seems to be beneficiary of forced disappearances'

ISLAMABAD:

In startling remarks, Islamabad High Court judge Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb has said that the government seemed to be the ultimate beneficiary of forced disappearances.

During a hearing of the case pertaining to two missing brothers of PTI leader Azhar Mashwani, the court inquired about developments in the matter in response to which Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal said attempts were being made to locate the whereabouts of the missing brothers.

The Punjab Police SP told the court that although the family had provided the police with the CCTV footage, the forensic agency and the NADRA had not been able to trace the abductors due to the video's low resolution which had prevented police from obtaining any clues in the matter so far.

The court remarked that it seemed the government was the ultimate beneficiary of the forced disappearances and that people were being abducted while the country's chief executives showed apathy towards them.
