TORKHAM:

Customs enforcement officials at the Torkham border destroyed 1,150 litres of expired beverage concentrates on Friday. The concentrates, used in the manufacturing of soft drinks, were deemed unfit for consumption after they expired in Afghanistan.

Deputy Collector of Customs, Haseeb Bajwa, informed the media that the beverage concentrates had initially been exported to Afghanistan by a beverage company.

However, upon expiration, the product was re-imported to Pakistan by the owner, who voluntarily surrendered it to the customs authorities at the Torkham border.

Bajwa explained that the expired concentrates, which are used in the production of cold drinks, were confiscated in accordance with customs regulations. He noted that the market value of the seized product was estimated to be in the millions of rupees.

After completing the necessary legal formalities, customs officials proceeded to destroy the expired beverage concentrates.

Bajwa emphasised that this action demonstrates the commitment of customs authorities to upholding import regulations and ensuring that only compliant and safe products enter the market.

He added that customs officials would continue their vigilant efforts to prevent the circulation of expired or non-compliant goods to and from Afghanistan.
