Jane Fonda reportedly foresaw the eventual split between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck months before the singer filed for divorce. The revelations came from Lopez’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, where Fonda expressed reservations about the couple's rekindled relationship.

In a candid conversation with Lopez, Fonda admitted she felt "invested" in the relationship but had concerns about how the couple was presenting themselves. "It feels too much like you're trying to prove something instead of just living it," Fonda told Lopez, adding that the frequent public displays of affection might be an attempt to counter negative perceptions. Lopez responded, "That's just us living our life," but acknowledged that Fonda, whom she described as "very protective," was worried about her getting hurt again.

Fonda’s concerns deepened after noticing Affleck’s demeanor at the Grammys, where he appeared unhappy. "I get real scared...with all that s--t about the Grammys and he looked unhappy," Fonda remarked, revealing her fears to Lopez directly. Despite Lopez reassuring Fonda that nothing was wrong, the actress continued to worry.

Fonda had also expressed her thoughts to Lopez’s longtime manager, Benny Medina, emphasizing the importance of how the relationship was portrayed to avoid public criticism. "The idea of how you present that is so sacrosanct," Fonda said, noting her concern over the potential for negative backlash.

Lopez and Affleck married in a private Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a larger celebration in Georgia the following month. On August 20, 2024, two years to the day after their Georgia wedding, Lopez filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The split has drawn renewed attention to Fonda’s earlier concerns, as detailed in the documentary.
