Megan Thee Stallion to host 2024 MTV Video Music Awards

Megan Thee Stallion has been announced as the host for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, marking her first time leading the show. The network revealed on Thursday that the Grammy-winning artist will take on the hosting duties at the September 11 event, which will air live from New York’s UBS Arena at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Megan, who previously hosted Saturday Night Live and co-hosted The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, will also be vying for five awards at this year’s VMAs, including Best Collaboration with GloRilla and Best Hip-Hop.

Megan Thee Stallion’s history with the VMAs dates back five years when she won Best Power Anthem for her hit "Hot Girl Summer." This year, she is the most nominated hip-hop artist at the event. In June, Megan released her third album, Megan, under her independent label, Hot Girl Productions, with distribution by Warner Music Group. The album's lead single, "Mamushi," has been a major success, amassing 150 million streams and following the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 success of her earlier single, "Hiss," a diss track aimed at Nicki Minaj.

"Mamushi" has become a breakout hit, fueled by a dance trend and accompanied by a music video filmed in Tokyo, Japan, featuring actor Shô Kasamatsu. Megan has been touring in support of the album, with a notable performance at Madison Square Garden where she was joined by Cardi B and GloRilla, as reviewed by Variety.

Recently, Megan also made headlines for her political activism, performing at a rally for presidential candidate Kamala Harris in Atlanta. At the July 30 event, she urged her fans to support Harris, saying, “We about to make history with the first female president, the first Black female president."
