Taylor Swift expresses 'fear' over Vienna attack threat

Taylor Swift expressed that the cancellation of her Vienna tour dates due to an attack threat brought her "a new sense of fear."

In an Instagram post, she shared that she felt "a tremendous amount of guilt" because many fans had made plans to travel to the shows.

Earlier in August, three concerts in the Austrian capital were cancelled after three individuals were arrested for allegedly planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group.

The 34-year-old singer-songwriter concluded the European leg of her Eras Tour on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium in London.

On Instagram, Swift wrote: "Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating."

"But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives."

"I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together."

She emphasized that the safety of her fans was her top priority as she continued with her tour, stating, "I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London."

Swift added that she and her team collaborated closely with stadium staff and British authorities to ensure everyone's safety, and she expressed her gratitude for their efforts.

Explaining her decision to wait before discussing the Vienna concert cancellations, she said: "Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows."

Swift concluded by saying her main focus was to finish the European tour safely, and she was relieved to have accomplished that.

Her next performance for The Eras Tour is set for 18 October in Miami, Florida.
