Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan resigns after 13 years

Faruque Ahmed, a former Bangladeshi cricketer, has taken over as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan announced his resignation from the post during an emergency meeting with board directors on Wednesday, marking the end of his 13-year tenure.

Nazmul, who first assumed the presidency of the board in 2012 during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been a significant figure in Bangladesh cricket, overseeing the sport’s development over the last decade.

The resignation was confirmed following a meeting at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, where Nazmul was expected to discuss his continued involvement.

During his time as president, Nazmul was re-elected three times and also served as a Member of Parliament for the Kishoreganj-6 constituency since 2009.

His leadership of the BCB has been marked by significant strides in Bangladesh’s cricketing infrastructure and international presence.

Nazmul Hassan’s resignation follows the recent departure of BCB’s Operations Cricket Chairman, Jalal Yunus, who was one of two directors nominated by the National Sports Council.

The resignation of both high-profile figures marks a significant shift in the board’s leadership dynamics.

Nazmul’s 12 year tenure as president is noted as one of the longest in the history of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, bringing to an end a period of considerable growth and challenges for the sport in the country.

Former Bangladeshi cricketer Faruque Ahmed has succeeded Nazmul Hasan as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
