Pakistan committed to terror fight: Zardari

On terrorism remembrance day, president urges global solidarity

ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari paid homage on Tuesday to all those who have fallen victim to terrorism in Pakistan, including civilians, security forces, and law enforcement personnel.

In a message on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism, the president stressed the deep pain and suffering endured by the families who lost their loved ones to terrorist acts.

He highlighted this year's theme, "Victims of Terrorism as Peace Advocates and Educators," as a reminder of the crucial role survivors play in promoting peace and raising awareness about the devastating impact of violent extremism.

Reflecting on Pakistan's two-decade-long battle against terrorism, President Zardari noted the heavy toll it has taken on the nation.

Thousands of civilians and security personnel have lost their lives, including former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was martyred by terrorists.

He also pointed to the significant financial losses incurred due to terrorism, which has cost Pakistan billions of dollars. Anti-Pakistan forces, he said, have supported and financed terrorism, sending militants to carry out attacks within the country.

Despite these challenges, President Zardari praised the resilience and determination of the Pakistani people.

He stated that Pakistan remains the only country in the world to have successfully contained terrorist forces and has been fighting this war for over twenty years.

The nation's efforts have gained global recognition, and Pakistan remains committed to contributing to international counter-terrorism initiatives.

He acknowledged the ongoing efforts of Pakistan's security forces and law enforcement agencies, who continue to take targeted actions against terrorist elements, often at the cost of their lives.
