RAWALPINDI:

In response to the unruly August 14 celebrations in Murree, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has appointed a separate permanent district police officer (DPO) and chief traffic officer (CTO) for the district to maintain law and order.

The reshuffle comes after allegations of negligence during the incident, leading to disciplinary actions and transfers within the police department.

Murree DSP Raja Arshad has been reassigned to the Central Police Office in Lahore, while Rawalpindi Security DSP Waqar Azeem has been transferred to Faisalabad.

In their place, SP Mughees Hashmi has been appointed as the CTO of Murree, and SSP Asif Amin Awan will now serve as the DPO of Murree. ASP Owais Khan has been posted as the new SDPO of Murree, replacing SDPO Malik Arshad, who has also been moved to the Central Police Office in Lahore due to alleged negligence in his duties during the Murree incident.

Further appointments include SSP Investigation Rawalpindi, Zanira Azfar, who has been named regional police officer of the special branch in Rawalpindi. SSP Saba Sattar has taken over as SSP Investigation Rawalpindi. Additional postings include Syed Aziz as SP technical telecommunication, Muhammad Maaz Zafar as SP Special Branch Lahore Region, and Hassam Bin Iqbal as SP intelligence special branch Lahore.

These changes come in the wake of a high-level meeting held by the Punjab chief minister in Rawalpindi, following the August 14 incident. The new appointments are aimed at strengthening the administrative and security framework in Murree and ensuring a more efficient law enforcement response in the future.
