Joe Biden’s 43-year-old daughter, Ashley takes the stage at DNC: “Dad, you are still my best friend”

Ashley Biden, the only daughter of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, introduced her father before his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night. 

Unlike in 2020, when she and her half-brother Hunter Biden introduced him together, Ashley has mostly stayed out of the public eye. However, she has been seen alongside her father at various family events during his presidency, such as watching fireworks from the White House on July 4.

Introducing her father, Ashley described the 2024 presidential election as "the fight of our lifetime," emphasizing that democracy, freedom, and reproductive rights are at stake. A social worker in Philadelphia who supports formerly incarcerated women, Ashley said her career was inspired by her father's influence. She served as executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice for seven years before stepping down in 2019.

At 43, Ashley is deeply devoted to her older half-brothers, attending Hunter Biden's trials and honoring Beau Biden as "the captain of our lives" in a 2015 eulogy. She is married to Howard Krein, an otolaryngologist, and their 2012 wedding reception took place in her parents' Wilmington backyard. Reflecting on that day while introducing her father, Ashley shared a touching memory: “I thought that I would be a mess, but he was the one crying, and I was the one who had to comfort him before he walked me down the aisle. He turned to me and said that he would always be my best friend. All these years later, Dad. You are still my best friend.”
