Three soldiers martyred foiling infiltration bid

Five terrorists killed, four injured in intense exchange of fire in Bajaur district

RAWALPINDI:

Three soldiers embraced martyrdom as security forces foiled an infiltration attempt into the Bajaur district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) from Afghanistan in the night between Sunday and Monday, the military said in a statement on Monday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, said in a statement that five terrorists were killed and four others were injured during an intense exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists.

"On night 18/19 August 2024, movement of a group of Khwarij, who were trying to infiltrate Pakistan-Afghanistan border, was picked up by the security forces in Bajaur District. Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. Resultantly, five khwarij of Fitna al Khwarij were sent to hell, while four khwarij got injured," read the ISPR statement.

"During intense exchange of fire, three brave sons of soil… having fought gallantly, embraced Shahadat," the statement added. It identified the martyred soldiers as Naik Inayat Khan, 36, from Khyber district; Lance Naik Umer Hayat, 35, from Mansehra district, and Sepoy Waqar Khan, 25, from Peshawar district.

"Pakistan has consistently been asking Interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border," the ISPR said, adding that the Interim Afghan government was expected to fulfil its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil for acts of terrorism against Pakistan.

"Security Forces of Pakistan remain committed to secure its borders and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve," the ISPR statement concluded.

Meanwhile, President Asif Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of three soldiers of the Pakistan Army while fighting terrorists in Bajaur. He paid rich tributes to the martyrs for sacrificing their lives in the defence of the country.

In a statement issued by the President's Office, Zardari said, "The security forces bravely foiled the infiltration attempt of the terrorists. The entire nation salutes the spirit of patriotism and selflessness of the Pakistan Army. The entire nation pays homage to its martyrs, the sacrifices will not be forgotten."
