19 killed this monsoon season in Balochistan

Rain continues to lash the province

QUETTA:

The ongoing monsoon rains have claimed at least 19 lives, left 11 people injured, and impacted over 3,000 residents across Balochistan as the heavy downpours persisted on Monday, sources in the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said. Parts of northern and central Balochistan have faced the brunt of torrential rains across Balochistan.

Spanning from June to September, the monsoon season is crucial for replenishing water reserves and supporting agriculture. However, the rains often lead to severe weather-related challenges, with experts cautioning that climate change is intensifying both the frequency and severity of these events.

The latest PDMA report indicates that since the monsoon began on July 1, 19 people have died, 11 have been injured, and 3,031 have been affected. The relentless rains have also caused significant damage to infrastructure, with 433 homes reported as either partially or completely destroyed.

Yunus Mengal, a PDMA official, informed the media that 16 districts across Balochistan have been impacted by the recent heavy rains. He noted that relief efforts are actively being carried out to support the affected communities.
