Halle Berry seeks sole custody of son Maceo in legal dispute with ex-husband Olivier Martinez
Halle Berry has sought sole custody of her son, Maceo, amid her contentious custody battle with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the “Catwoman” star accused her ex of “turbulent and detrimental behavior” that has adversely affected their 10-year-old son, who is struggling with “serious behavior and learning problems” that the French actor allegedly attributed to him.
Berry alleged that the “Taking Lives” star prioritized Maceo’s soccer activities over his education, claiming that Martinez refused to hire a tutor for their son because it would interfere with his practice schedule.
As a consequence, Maceo has fallen behind academically.
The 58-year-old actress also stated that her son returns to her in an angry state after spending time with Martinez, also 58, claiming that his father discusses their relationship issues with him.
The outlet reported that Berry described her parenting as “exemplary,” while Martinez’s parenting was portrayed as lacking.
The “Gothika” star argued that having full custody would allow her to make decisions regarding Maceo’s education and therapy, helping him get back on track.
Martinez and Berry separated in 2015 after two years of marriage and have been engaged in a prolonged custody battle ever since.
The former couple currently share joint physical and legal custody of Maceo, but Berry pays Martinez $8,000 per month in child support and covers his educational expenses.
In May, the exes reached a new co-parenting agreement, agreeing to meet with a coach to improve their ability to co-parent their son.
While they agreed to attend six joint co-parenting sessions, Martinez has opted to take the “summer off.”
Consequently, Berry requested a judge’s intervention to compel Martinez to return from vacation and participate in the sessions, but her request was denied.
Berry is also the mother of daughter Nahla, 16, whom she shares with ex Gabriel Aubry.
