Pakistan disappoint in CW Youth Games

Boxer, swimmer fail to advance at event underway in Isle of Man.

KARACHI:

Pakistan were off to a dismal start at the fourth Commonwealth Youth Games being held at the Isle of Man after a poor performance in the boxing and swimming events.

Balach Razzaq failed in his bid to make it to the last-eight of the lightweight men's event after suffering a 22-7 loss to South Africa's Jabulani Makhense. Inthe women's 100-metre (m) freestyle event Mahnoor Maqsood finished at the 19th place in the preliminary round. "Losing to a South African opponent is not that bad," Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Secretary Akram Khan told The Express Tribune.

"Razzaq is a very talent boxer and this loss will improve his game."

Meanwhile, Maqsood covered the distance in one minute and 9.63 seconds after Australia swimmers finished top of the podium with Kotuku Ngawati clocking 55.33 seconds and Ami Matsuo timing 55.39 seconds.

The Pakistan swimmer will participate in the women's 50m freestyle event today and women's 50m backstroke competition tomorrow. In the athletics' event Kiran Rana qualified for the final round of the 1500m women's race.
