Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah recently shared his views on why fast bowlers often excel as captains, citing examples from Pakistan to bolster his argument.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Bumrah pointed to former Pakistan captain Imran Khan, who led his team to a World Cup victory, as a prime example of a successful fast-bowler captain.

Bumrah explained that fast bowlers are required to outthink the batter, which makes them inherently intelligent and strategic leaders.

He mentioned legendary Pakistani pacers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, both of whom also served as captains, highlighting their ability to lead from the front.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Bumrah discussed the leadership styles of various captains he has played under, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni.

He praised Sharma for his empathy towards bowlers and Dhoni for providing a sense of security.

Kohli, he noted, brought passion and energy, significantly raising the team’s fitness standards.

Bumrah emphasised that while captaincy is a formal role, leadership is about the collective effort of the team.
